One Of The Reason Being Busy

I was at IKIP College for 3 days to help them organized the IKIP Culinaire Challenge 2009, one of the reason I was so busy last week. Most of the time I was there with the exception of the Peoplesoft Training in the morning.

IKIP Culinaire Challenge 2009 21-23 April 2009

It was tiring. From the whole planning, organizing, managing, and etc. Owh, why I was in the picture of this competition? This competition was supported by our hotel and also Chefs Association which the Chairman is my Executive Chef and I was appointed to be the Secretary for that, just to help them in the paperwork. But looks like, I'm involve in the whole thing. I can say that I enjoy doing this extra work except being the only girl in that committee. But it's fun though. They treated their only girl like a queen.
Everything must be like, "Lina, what do u want to eat?" or "Lina, u dah makan ke?" or "Lina, are you ok?" or "can someone check whether Lina get her drinks or not?" and most of times during lunch and tea time "Lina, Chef asked you to join them for lunch/tea. Table judges ye Lina." And when first time meeting with the rest of the judges, "Oh, you are Lina is it? Finally we meet. Come, I bring something for you." Hahahaha quite fun meeting with them, especially this Executive Chef from PJ Hilton. He's damn one cool guy especially during drinking time. Glad to know you Chef!
Lina: Chef Chris, look here please. Don't be shy!
Chef Chris: Lina, don't forget to email me the picture ok!
Lina: Yes judge!
Chef Chris: Good, I'll belanja u in our coffee house
Lina: Paya Serai please. I love the decor

During the organizing phase for all the judges, I'd communicated with them almost everyday through email and phone calls. I didn't know them personally or even their face except for Chef Balan because he came last year and I met him in Singapore. So basically, I always think that they are the religious chefs that only talk about food or how to cook and what so ever. But I was wrong. They are totally different from what I thought. Don't judge the book by its cover Lina! Damn me!!

The judges talk
From left : Chef Balan (Simplot), Chef Sefrano (Area Exec Chef Hilton Group),
Chef Chris (Exec Chef, PJ Hilton), Chef Pari (Exec Chef, Hyatt Kuantan),
Chef Raymond (Exec Chef, Datai Langkawi),
Chef William (World Chefs Association)

I was so malas to capture all the picture of foods but I took the wedding cake picture for my sister. The one that won first place, obviously from my hotel. Hehehehe. Nadia kinds of like it and she wants her wedding cake to be exactly like that.

Nadia is crazy with this 14kgs cake

I can order for you Nadia, but get the money ready. Even after my discount, still mahal ok.

Back of the cake

Owh, between I also recieved a token of appreciation from IKIP during the closing ceremony. I didn't expect it. So I was shocked when they announce my name and asked me to come up to the stage. I think they should tell me earlier kan, so that I will dress properly. Doink!

She was saying & asking something related to family thingy. And she announced it to the whole ballroom. Shy la wey + I wanted to keep my profile low (mcm bagus kan)

And, apart from the that, we opened a Job Fair Booth at IKIP for Hyatt. Not that we want to hire, but just to gether the database from the students for future use. Lucky I got my girls to standby at the booth the whole 3 days.

Our booth, newly banner & School of Hospitality Brochure

I think, the whole event went well and most of the hotelier in east coast are still talking about it. Good job guys. We've made it!

The Day It is All About Technology & System

I've attended a training by Hyatt International for a new system that we will be using it for Key Personnel. But this time, we attended through a web seminar and conference call with them in Chicago.

Peoplesoft Training through web seminar and conference call

The training was quite interesting. Once again, I've been selected as an administrator for this new system for our hotel.

My 2nd monitor while doing the exercise

The training will take 3 days to finish it. We've already done 2 days and another 1 more day will be next week. Though the system quite interesting and user friendly, I need to finish up a series of homework before the training start and we need to do exercise during the training so that Chicago office can rectify our mistake there and then.

My monitor, cappuccino, conference phone

I'm done with my exercise and waiting for others to finish up

Last week session was attended by all properties in South East Asia - Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Not forgetting Hong Kong. One more day finish up the training, and we will go live with the new system.
Sigh. More work for me. As for now, I'm currently an administrator for 5 systems in our hotel. Don't know since when I'm so interested in the IT System thingy.

ps: Aud, you should proud of me ok..

When I Need My Coffee Session Alone

Sometimes I do need my coffee session alone. I just want to sit and have my Caramel Coffee alone, without anyone beside me...

For my normal coffee session last week, I was physically alone but I was accompanied by Nis on the other side. As promised to her, I went for Starbucking and we had our time updating each other, planned for our next holiday, etc. Thanks to technology. Huhuhuhu...

2 weeks until she will be in Malaysia. Yeay!!

I do miss you babe. Can't wait for May 11th, 2009...

Make It Mine

Wake up everyone
How can you sleep at a time like this
Unless the dreamer is the real you
Listen to your voice
The one that tells you to taste past the tip of your tongue
Lip and the nect will appear

It's Not Finish Yet

Been really busy for the past week and I'm still in the busy bee mode. I thought I can rest for a while and take off today and tomorrow. Unfortunately, I had to work today, and I need to go to work tomorrow, which is Sunday. I need a rest. I'm exhausted and my brain is burning. I think this is the price I need to pay to be in this position and most importantly, in this industry. Sigh.
Qouted from Aud "Bangla pun cuti la wey ari ahad!"

Now I Know How....

I always wondering how people can make money through their blog. I've read a lot of blogs and most of them make money through their blog. Being me that not so good in computer and IT stuff, (Aud n Anes said I am one of the buta IT) I keep on asking myself how la this people can get so much side income through blogging. I've registered in nuffnag, but really don't know how it works. After read a few blogs that reveal how to make money through blogging, now I understand. Wow, I impress.
One of the blog that I read daily for the past 2 year is redmummy. I was bloghop and I came across her blog. Starting that day, I've been reading her blog continuously every single day, from her blogspot until she moved to her own red blog. I like the way she tells stories of her life. She got so much of idea and she memang sangat dedicated to her blog ok. I salute and adore her. This morning, when I visited her blog for my normal reading, I know the answer how exactly people make money through their blog. She revealed her story how and what need to be done (more details in her blog). Again, I am so impress with her and her husband who supports her all the time. You rock redmummy. Even though I'm your silent reader, ehem ehem tell you what, keep on blogging as your blog rock my day.

What Else Can I Say

Been really busy. I came back quite early today. I just couldn't take it staying in the office. Will be exploded soon. Thought want to have lunch with my dad but he went to KL and I lambat about half and hour. Sigh.
I missed my friends. I missed my leisure time with them. I missed those days where we can just chill and have a good time together. To those people, you know who you are, please miss me too. Hahahahaha...
Owh between I still continue with my no carb diet. So far, I didn't screw up. Maybe because I damn busy so that I hardly have time to eat. Not a good thing but what to do, there is more important thing I need to handle first rather than sitting in the cafetaria and having a good time during lunch. And when I came back, I already exhausted and all I want is to sleep. But I promise to myself to look after my health as I can't afford to get sick now. Next week will be the killing time for me. This is my first recruitment project that I involved from the zero..Hope everything will be ok. Errr I don't want it just to be ok actually, I want it to be fantastic. Please please pray for me as I pray harder every single day now.

Are You Really Sure You Want To Be...

In the hospitality industry? Think carefully people, especially those who are still young. Some people assumed that this industry is a glamorous job. This is not a glamorous job after all.
I've conducted an open interview in collaboration with Taylor's College + KBS (Kementerian Belia & Sukan). We were looking for candidates who are interested in the hospitality industry specializing in Food & Beverage and Culinary. This program will take 6 months to finish and they will get a certificates by the end of the program. The candidates who are being accepted, will be enrolled to Taylor's for their theory part for 3 months and continue their on-the-job training at Hyatt for another 3 months. The best part of this program is, all expenses will be paid by government, including their allowances during the on-the-job training. And after completing their program, we as an employer, can absorb them into our permanent employment depending on their performance and potential to growth with Hyatt.
I only managed to get 2 candidates for their placement here. The problem, big problem was they can't speak English! They even didn't want to try.. What I normally did when conducting an interview, I told them try to speak in English. It doesn't matter if they're not able to speak fluently, but at least try la wey. For example, there was a guy, not only he can't speak but he didn't understand what we were saying. We asked him a simple question but he replied back in a Malay+Kelantanese, no offense to Kelantan people. People out there, if you really want to be in this industry, especially in front line, you must speak in ENGLISH.
Some more, the modules prepared by Taylor's College are all in English. How you want to cope with that? Come on people, no matter how good you in your cooking or how well groomed you are, but if you can't speak the language..it just waste of time. Back to that poor guy that can't understand us, we told him exactly what are we looking for and luckily he understand. We did advised him to improve his English and try out in our next interview in 3 months time. Sigh, sad thing was, he really interested but unfortunately we also have to find a suitable candidate for us. And we can't simply take because at the end of the day, it will reflect us as a 5-star hotel.
On the other hand, the interview was tiring and the whole day was gone. Hopefully, the next interview will give something different, someone that really suits to be in this industry.
This is not a glamorous job people. No joke.

Friday, April 10, 2009

Anes & Syah asked..

"Can we have 48 hours a day?" Aud and me laughed out loud. What we want to do if we have 48 hours a day. Meaning that we have to work for about 24 hours a day?! Spend 24 hours in the office is really not a joke ok. Not funny at all.

But, with my current situation now, I want to ask the same question the came out from Anes & Syah. "Can I have 48 hours a day, please?" I run out of energy , yet I still need to meet the dateline. My brain is drying, but I still have to come out with the idea.

48 hours a day please..

The Day You're More Than Welcome

Yes, believe me. Hyatt did their advertisement in all major tv channels around the world and they launched it somewhere in December last year. You can say whatever you want to say, but one thing I'm pretty sure is, I am so proud. And I'm glad to be part of the team.

p/s: all the location in the video was shot in different Hyatt around the world.

The Day I Need The Strength To Get Up

I watched this video over and over again. What really touched me when he said "this is not the end.It matters how you going to finish. Are you going to finish it strong? "
I want to finish it strong, and I'll get the strength to get up....

You guys watch this video and let me know what you think..Enjoy!
